The Weekly: Hey
I don't have anything prepared for this week, so here's a recap of my week and another book list.
Happy Monday!
I’m not going to hold you: I forgot today was Monday. I forgot about this newsletter.
My week was super lowkey.
I spent New Year’s Day at home being Haitian. I had all the soup joumou, pate, griot, diri and chokola my heart and stomach could hold. Best part: I didn’t make a single thing!
I finally watched Saltburn and Barbie. Saltburn was a lot, but the performances were so good. Barbie was lowkey brilliant. Many cackles from me on my sofa.
I started reading Lyric by Grey Huffington. It’s the second book in the The Eisenberg Effect series. I don’t remember the first and third books being this filthy. Can y’all come up for air? The Lord is watching, and that man is your brothers’ best friend.
Spent a bag at Sam’s Club yesterday. I had to. I was literally out of everything you need to run a household—toilet paper, paper towels and water. I was supposed to go to Trader Joe’s afterwards, but my wallet had enough.
This upcoming week is going to be fun. Going to watch Sports™ tonight with my girls. Talia Talk Tuesdays is tomorrow at 8pm ET (going on Live has been so much fun). Finally getting my nails done after four weeks (Burgundy nails maybe?). And a weekend trip [no itinerary (and I’m already dying a slow death), just vibes]!
I hope you have a great week. There’s plenty to do in the DMV, per my January event guide. Please be safe!

My top 10 books of 2023
Finally sat down and thought about all the books I read last year. Here are my 10 favorites:
Reel by Kennedy Ryan. Canon Holt is not the man. He’s thee man.
Honey & Spice by Bolu Babalola. This is very much a giddy-lay-on-your-stomach- rubbing-your-feet-together romance.
The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson. A wonderful piece of historical fiction set in 1950s Philadelphia and D.C.
Demon’s Dream by Elle Kayson. When’s the last time you read a book that has a 4.9 and 4.8 rating on Amazon and Goodreads, respectively?
This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan. It’s one of the most anticipated romance novels of 2024 for good reason!
fast by Millie Belizaire. This love story is heavy and spans 20 years, but it’s so rewarding at the end.
Again by J.L. Seegars. I don’t believe in second chances IRL, but this book?!
When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole. This is definitely happening IRL in cities all across the country. Hell, it’s been happening.
Before We Fall by Rilzy Adams. Rilzy is my novella queen, but this novel was everything.
The Oath by T.M. Richardson. Why choose?
