The Weekly: New Hair + Myah Ariel on 3/19
Romance author Myah Ariel is the next guest on Talia's Book Nook. We're discussing 'No Ordinary Love' this Wednesday on TikTok live at a special time. Plus: Two DMV hair salon reviews!
Happy Monday!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day or whatever.
More importantly: I’m doing better. Things are feeling more manageable. I talk more about struggling to achieve work-life balance in my new YouTube Q&A video.
I also had a good week!
It was an honor interviewing bestselling author Vanessa Miller for the DMV stop of her book tour on Wednesday. Miller’s new historical fiction novel The Filling Station is required reading for a deeper look at Greenwood, the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the Threatt Filling Station.
I stayed in Friday night to start playing catch-up on content, mainly for my Talia Talks TV podcast. My reviews of the latest episodes of Ready to Love Philly and RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17 are live. And we’re recapping the new season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta (until I’m bored)! My review of the season 16 premiere is also live here. The review of last night’s episode will be up today here.
As promised: my reviews of The Take Down Shampoo Studio in Clinton, MD and Hair by Dilis African Hair Braiding in Columbia, MD are posted on socials. I visited both DMV hair salons in one weekend (🥵). The former video is lowkey viral and you’re probably going to have to wait over a month to make your appointment. My influence, but The Take Down is deserving of all the good things coming its way!
Spent a quiet Sunday at home reading No Ordinary Love, Maybe I Need You and The Secret World of Maggie Grey. I also did quite the pantry and freezer clear out. I’m challenging myself to not buy groceries until after I return from Los Angeles next week.
Hope you have a great week. I’ll be prepping for the CCPL Fest author brunch with Dolen Perkins-Valdez, trying a new-to-me restaurant and attending my first soccer game ever!

March 19: Myah Ariel on Talia’s Book Nook
Talia’s Book Nook is back this Wednesday at a special time! Set a reminder and tune in here for my discussion with romance author Myah Ariel.
I’m such a fan of Myah’s Hollywood romances. Her debut When I Think Of You was one of the 10 books I handpicked for the official ESSENCE Fest bookstore in 2024.
Her next book is out in 15 days! In No Ordinary Love, a popstar and MLB bad boy embark on PR relationship to help both of their images. Of course, feelings get caught!

March 18: Talia Talk Tuesdays on Substack
Talia Talk Tuesdays is back tomorrow night at 8pm ET on Substack. We had a great time two weeks ago. Here is the recording if you missed it.
Only subscribers (free or paid) to this newsletter can access the live. If you’re reading this, you’re probably good. You’ll get a notification when I’m live on the Substack app or via email.
