Houston day 2: Lucille's & Fine Art
Started the day at Lucille's and saw the now-disgraced Kehinde Wiley's latest exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
Unlike day 1, I wasn’t 100% solo on Saturday. I did have the morning to myself though.

Brunch at Lucille’s
Black-owned Lucille’s Fine Southern Foods came up quite a few times when I asked my followers for Houston dining recommendations. I got to the Museum District restaurant 30 minutes after opening. I paid for street parking. I didn’t have a reservation, but there was seating at the bar.
I had the shrimp and grits and mangomosa. Despite being disappointed in my entree, I know the food at Lucille’s has to be overall good. It was bustling when I got there, and a line was forming outside by the time I left at 11 am. I spent a little over $46 after tipping.
Getting cultured at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston
I learned Kehinde Wiley’s An Archaeology of Silence collection is on view at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston until May 27, 2024 a couple of days before my trip. It instantly shot to the top of my list of things to do.
Museum admission is $10 during the week and $24 on the weekends for non-members. There’s a parking garage next to the Beck building.
The art exhibit took my breath away. I almost cried. Wiley’s collection of larger-than-life paintings and intricate bronze sculptures is a reimagining of Western symbols of death and sacrifice and explores the silence surrounding the death of Black bodies.
I can’t afford Wiley’s work in real life, but I did buy some exhibit merch at the museum gift shop.
I also saw Armand Hammer’s art collection, which is on view until January 21, 2024 (like Sunday). A bunch of paintings from Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Moreau, Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin and Monet.
Before heading out, I checked out Yayoi Kusama’s Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity installation. It’s a minute, as in 60 seconds.
Drinks at the AC Hotel
Baby’s first birthday party was a success! But the kids wore the aunties out. My best friend and I got dinner and drinks at the AC Lounge inside the AC Hotel Houston Downtown before calling it a night. Very cute for a pre-downtown event or if you’re staying downtown. Two cocktails, an appetizer, and a burger for $80 after tip.
