Cape Town Day 6: Table Mountain + GOLD
Last full day in The Mother City! And my best girl is 60! I actually don't like heights, so why the heck am I going to the top of Table Mountain?
It’s Mommy’s birthday and our last full day in The Mother City!

Breakfast at Villa 47
Again. My parents had errands to run, so I took myself to breakfast in Cape Town’s CBD.
Villa 47 wasn’t too busy for a Thursday morning. I don’t think I made a reservation and was seated immediately. The patio windows were wide open, so I sat in the front to people-watch.
I ordered a bacon-and-egg croissant, the panna cotta with seasonal fruit and granola, and beet juice. Solid.
Cost of breakfast: $14.41
City Sightseeing Bus + Table Mountain
I don’t care how cheesy those double-decker open-air red buses are, you can NEVER make me hate a hop-on-hop-off tour bus! City Sightseeing will always be good in my book.
Think about it. It’s the most affordable way to get around the city—driving through all of the neighborhoods and stopping at all the major tourist attractions. I personally love the audio component of the bus ride. Plenty of fun facts!
Mommy and I got the day pass and Table Mountain Aerial Cableway bundle. Daddy doesn’t do heights, so no Table Mountain for him. And you know what? I shouldn’t either, because it’s clear that I’m afraid of heights too.
When the bus stopped at the base of the mountain’s cable car entrance, my heart sank. I was sick and changed my mind instantly. I’ll wait down here with Daddy. Mommy is like she’s going. I sighed heavily and got in line for the Cableway.
My heart sank AGAIN as the cable car ascended to the top of the mountain. And this cable car slowly spins as it goes up so everyone packed into the cable car get’s 360 views.
And my heart just stayed in my stomach as we walked around the top of the mountains. I would just peered into the abyss of the city—not getting too close to any edges.
I survived.
Cost of day pass + Table Mountain Cableway bundle: $37.31
When I purchased: 1 month prior (I’m certain you can this last minute or day of.)
Lunch at KFC
Listen. KFC is everywhere in South Africa.
After realizing the hop-on-hop-off bus route to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens was no longer running for the day, we took our tired and defeated behinds to the KFC inside the mall at V&A Waterfront.
I’m not above global fast food chains. I enjoying seeing the cultural differences in other country’s menus.
The Zinger wings are delicious.
Cost of wings (10) and Coke Zero Sugar: $5.30
Dinner at GOLD Restaurant
Another pan-African restaurant that is geared toward tourists. But GOLD Restaurant, located in De Waterkant, didn’t bother me as much as yesterday’s.
The prix-fixe menu featured 14 dishes from all over the continent. It was all pretty good.
There was live entertainment and face painting too, but again…not bothered as much.
I’m just glad Mommy had a great 60th birthday.
Cost of prix-fixe dinner: $25.35 per person
When I booked: 8 weeks prior
